Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra
Minutes of the Annual General Meeting, held 8th March 2009
1. Apologies for Absence
None received
2. Chairman’s Opening Remarks (Vilda Kuby)
The Chairman announced that he was very pleased with the performance of the orchestra so far this season.
He also made an apology to any members who may have been upset by not being invited to play in the concert in November 2008. Several key members of the committee had stood down at the previous AGM, and the new team were on a very steep learning curve.
3. Minutes of the Previous AGM and Matters Arising
The minutes were made available to members via the orchestra website, and summarised at the meeting by the Secretary.
Vilda Kuby has met with Laura Hannaway at Middlesbrough Town Hall to discuss whether our community involvement could gain us a reduction in the fees we pay for the March 2009 concert.
4. Treasurer’s Report
Copies of the accounts for the previous year were circulated.
4.1. The accounts included a breakdown of the costs of the non-prom, as requested by members.
4.2. Teesside High School – a huge loss was made on this concert
Middlesbrough Town Hall – broke even once late subs had been collected
4.3. Payment presented in error – Rakhi Singh cashed both cheques for her £400 fee sent to her by the orchestra (she initially thought one had been lost, so another was sent). She will refund £400 to the orchestra.
4.4. March 2009 concert – tickets sales “promising” so far.
5. Election of Committee
All members of the current committee were willing to stand for re-election, and were duly re-elected. Vilda Kuby was again nominated for the post of Chairman. (Proposed by Joanne McKenna)
6. Any Other Business
6.1. Concerts next season.
Ian Denley will conduct Brahms Symphony No. 1, Quiet City by Copeland and Elgar’s Wand of Youth Suite
March Concert – details to be decided, possibly a “Movie Matinee” theme.
6.2. Vilda Kuby asked all members to have a look at the orchestra website.
